Blog: Barracuda, beach huts and coconuts

In my last blog entry I got woken up by a piercing screeeeeeech , I got up and Poppa was touching a grey BIRD. When he saw me he said “This is Felix.” And I said “Cool. When did you get a bird?”, then I said “Hello Felix.” and he squawked “Hello” right back to me.

Pop and I were going fishing later in the day so we had to get prepared. We got some sandwiches and some water and I had some sprite in the fridge so I took that to have on the boat too. When Nana woke up we said goodbye to her because we weren't going to be back for a while.

Then we went to meet Jerome in the car park. We found Jerome and we drove to the Transocean office where Poppa works. We collected some fishing gear from the office and then headed to the jetty out the back of Transocean building and waited for the boat driver Rasco. He was a very nice man he even let me drive the boat sometimes. After meeting Rasco we headed down the river.

This is Rasco

We had some lunch and then, when we had gone far enough, we started to troll for fish. All of a sudden, I had something on my line and I reeled it in. It was a barracuda. But when I had almost pulled it on to the boat my line went slack... the fish got off somehow. We don't know how. I guess it wasn't on the hook properly.

After half an hour we came to a small jetty where we saw some people. We came to a stop and I saw a sign saying “Beach Hut”. The beach hut was on an island that had people living on it. They have a hut on the beach with tables and chairs. The people living there will cook for you if you ask them to. But we didn't stay for long. I got some coconuts from the bottom of the trees because we had run out of food on the boat. We were getting tired so we headed for home and on our way we had the milk and flesh of the coconuts as a snack.

Because we weren't trolling for fish on the way home we could go really fast, so we were back in about half an hour. We got to the flat and said hello to Nana and had some vegetables, rice and beans for dinner. Then we went to bed and got some sleep

The next morning we went to a place called Chocolate Royale.

Fishing

Kaleb,

I remember it well. You were the only one to catch a fish that day and it was a nice sized barracuda. It was just a shame that you never managed to land it as the hook got caught on the out board bracket and got straightened out allowing the fish to come off.

Rasco, the boat driver, always asks after you and wants to know if you have managed to go fishing in Nicaragua. If not, he wants you to come back and try again.

Lots of love
