If you have been reading along with my series of blog entries, you will know that I had been in Nigeria visiting my Poppa, which is where he lives and works at the moment. I had spent a week there in Nigeria with my Nana as part of my around the world trip. But my time in Nigeria had come to an end. It was time for us to leave, our last day in Nigeria. We (Nana and I) were about to head to Managua, Nicaragua, via London and Miami. But before we left we still had some things to do.
The day before we had gone to the office and said goodbye to everybody there. When we got back from the office Nana and I said goodbye to Faith because we weren't going to see her on our last day there (I think she had a day off the next day). We did lots of packing during the last two days there, because we wanted to make sure that we didn't leave anything behind.
On the day we were leaving we went to Harvey's apartment. Harvey is a friend and workmate of my Poppa's. He and another friend of Poppa's from work, Neil, are two of my newest friends, they are great fun. He is really, really, very funny. He was leaving Nigeria on the same day and so we were all going to the airport together. So we all decided to have dinner at his apartment before going to the airport. I'm not sure when we got there, but it was afternoon.
This is Neil
There was a pool table in Harvey's apartment and Poppa and I decided to have a couple of games. We played because I really like pool and we didn't have much to do anyway. I think I won the first game and poppa won the second. But who cares who won? Not me. I just wanted it to be fun and it was really lots of fun.
After the games of pool we had dinner. I thought it was nice. The meal was a kind of fish, which was very nice, and lots of peas and vegetables too, including some mashed potatoes, which was very yummy stuff. Everyone liked it, especially Poppa.
After dinner, Sunday, Harvey's driver, took us to the airport.
The airport was very big multi-story building. It was very bright inside and you could see all of the cars driving across a bridge that goes across the river. Inside, there was lots of shops, people and different departure lounges for the people leaving. Out the windows you could see the planes taking off and lots of lights flying past like balls of colour.
When we got to the departure lounge door, we had to say goodbye to Poppa because he couldn't come in any further. I was very sad. I love my Poppa very much and so does Nana and we were both going to miss him lots because we weren't going to see him for a long time. Especially me. I gave him a BIG hug and kiss and he gave a BIG squeeze and a tickly-beard-prickly kiss.
After Poppa had left, we went to go through into the lounge area and got stopped from going in because Nana didn't have the Quantas freceunt flyer card and thats what she needed. Nana only had the Quantas club member card witch meant she could go into any lounge she wanted exept that one. but I needed to go to the toilet really badly and I couldn't because they wouldn't let us in. I started to cry - probably because I was really sad about missing my Poppa, needing to go to the toilet and it was about 11 ocloke at night so I was very tired. Then when manager saw me crying she decided to let us in.
Finally in the lounge, I got to use the toilet. When I came out, Nana and I talked to a man about football (soccer) and I ate some pretzels and some crackers and cheese and drank some juice. Then we just waited until we heard boarding call.
We were still feeling very sad about leaving Poppa as we boarded the plane. I knew that we were in the plane when we went through a big round door. We got to our seats and settled for another flight. As the plane took off my thoughts were of my Poppa getting smaller and smaller as we got further away. :(
The flight from Lagos to London was very very sad for me because I knew I would miss my poppa and I was leaving Nigeria where I met my two new best friends Harvey and Neil!! My time in Nigeria was lots of fun mainly because I got to spend time with my Poppa and I liked really liked going fishing on the boat with him. But Nigeria was also a very sad place for me because I saw lots and lots of poor people who were hungry and had nowhere to live and had to spend all day trying to sell things to people in cars to make money to buy food for their families. All the same, I would love to go back to see my new friends and to see my Poppa.
I had a big journey ahead of me: from Lagos to London to Miami and finally to Managua in Nicaragua. Then I will be reunited with my Dad and Bridget after 7 weeks away from them, which is the longest time I've ever been away from them. And I will be arriving in my hew home for a year.
That is it for now!
