Blog: Plane to Hong Kong

I had to go to bed early the night before Nana and I left for London because we had an early plane to catch. Marg and Des, my Nana’s sister and brother-in-law, were going to stay and look after my Nana’s house and Tootsie (aka “the womble”) while she was gone and they were also taking us to the Perth airport. Des used his sat-nav to get us to the airport because he didn’t know the way.

When we got to the airport we went and got our bags checked in and I got to put the stickers on our bags. Then we got our money changed into pounds. Marg and Des had come into the airport with us, but they said goodbye and left when we went to go upstairs. I felt sad because I’d miss them. Then we went through customs. After we got out of customs we went to x-ray our cabin bags and I had to take my shoes and jacket off. When we finished we went to the Qantas club lounge. I liked the Qantas club lounge because they had very nice things like fizzy drinks, really nice cereal and different flavours of yoghurt.
I had a lemon, lime and bitters and, before we left, I took some cheese from the cheese section (seeing as I’m obsessed with cheese). Thinking I would like it, I took a packet of smoked cheese—I thought it was that red wax-covered cheese that you get at the shops... but it wasn’t—and, not knowing any better, I started to eat it. As soon as it touched my tongue, I had a flash that I had eaten it before at my granny’s house and I had hated it, so I chucked it away.

We left Australia at 10:30. We went down a long ramp-tunnel that led to the plane. When we stepped into the plane there was wind gushing up through a crack between the ramp and the plane. But it was only a small gap so I wasn’t worried. We went to our seats. They were good seats because they were comfortable and had a big projector screen right in front of them.

We put our cabin-bags in the over head lockers and then had to put on our seat belts. We sat in the seats waiting for half an hour for the plane to go. Then the pilot said “take-off in 15 minutes”, and I got REALLY exited. It was about to go and ... and ... phewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. We were off like a ROCKET. (Mr. Exaggerating!) Okay not that fast, but pretty fast. I didn’t like my ears going funny. They went like the feeling of your nose getting blown when it didn’t need to and your ears go *POP*.

We were on the plane for 5 hours!!!!

I didn’t watch a movie on the screen because they were only showing movies for grown-ups, but because we were going to be on the plane for so long, I had to bring something so I wouldn’t be bored. So I brought my Nana’s mini DVD player. I watched Mrs. Doubtfire. I stopped half way through because my meal came. I can’t remember what I had to eat but they were very nice staff and they gave us hot chocolate with a marshmallow and the marshmallows melted. I really liked that! I could not resist.

After dinner, I slept for an hour—that obviously was not that much fun.

Later, I was looking out the window and I saw hills. I think they were green but they looked gray because I just couldn’t see very well because it was all too far away and there was lots of haze. That was a bit annoying because they would have looked really cool if I could have seen them properly.

When the pilot said landing in 15 minutes I got really exited again because I’d never landed in a plane before. Nana said it would be a little bit bumpy, so I thought that I would hate it. But it was fun. Before we landed we had to put everything away and put our seats in the upright position. Then it happened... we were landing! I got ready for the shaking of my life and... and... bump, bump, bump bump!... I thought it would be terrible but it wasn’t. It was fun too! Then it STOPPED.

Then we were there... Hong Kong! There’s more to come in my next entry (which will be posted as soon as it’s ready).
