Shortly after arriving in Nicaragua, we went for a tour of the isletas or islands in the lake. There are more than 350 islands in the lake and they were formed by a volcanic eruption from Volcan Mombacho. The plan was for Dad, Nana, Bridget and me to take a boat tour around the islands and stop for lunch at an island with a restaurant on it.
Before we could take a tour, we had to get from our house to the dock where the boat tours leave from. We tried to get a taxi, but at first we had trouble getting one. Usually lots go past ou house all the time but for some reason there were just none around. We kept walking and walking and trying different spots to find one. Eventually, we managed to get one near the big Cathedral.
When we got to the docks we got out of the taxi and went in to see if we could get a boat to go in. Dad talked to a man in Spanish and organised a boat and driver for the tour and we climbed aboard and headed off through the islands.
When we were going around the islands we saw some people washing clothes, and we also saw some really nice houses. Some of them were mansions and were really big and had big gardens.
We saw lots of birds on the way and some of them were very funny. There were little native ducks and big white storks and little birds that ran across the lily pads!
When we were really close to the restaurant, we saw a small island with a gigantic mango tree and on it lived five monkeys!!! Dad said that the guide was saying they were rescued by a vet who puts them on the island so they can recover and someone from one of the islands comes everyday to feed them.
After we had a good look at the monkeys we headed over to the restaurant island and got off the boat.
The restaurant had a a whole lot of tables and chairs out under big wooden huts. I ordered fried cheese and plantain fritters. Nana, Bridget and Dad had a type of fish called a guapote. They shared one between all three of them because it was so big! Theirs came with rice, plantain fritters and a tomato salsa. The food was very tasty and rich, and I really liked it. Just as I was finishing my last piece of cheese I saw a humming bird hovering at a plant right next to our table and pointed it out to Nana as soon as I could because she loves humming birds.
When I was finished my lunch I went and got changed so I could go in the pool. There were some boys playing a game with a stick but I didn't join in. When I first got in I hurt my foot by falling down a step in the middle and I couldn't see the floor of the pool because the water was from the lake and wasn't very clear. It was very fun in the pool and I hope a can have another swim in it some time.
When we were ready to go we went over to the boat and got in. On our way back in we went past a boat as it was going out. All the people waved at us and then our boat started rocking from side to side as we went over the waves from their boat. Then we got back to the dock and we got out of the boat. We were waiting for a taxi when Dad decided that instead of waiting we should just take the horse cart taxi that just pulled up. We got in the horse cart and I got to sit in the front! When we got to the central park we got off and walked home.
I really enjoyed everything and I hope I will get to go again (lucky for us we get to go again when Leah gets here). My favorite part was when I saw a humming bird because humming birds are so sweet.

Boat Tour
I have lots of photos of that day. It was fun. I was very surprised to see the Humming Bird, as I expected it to be all Blue/green and shiny. But the red/brown colour was lovely too and it was so tiny and fast.
The meal was very nice too......you should have tried the fish so I hope you will next time you go there.
I bet you are getting excited about Leah arriving!! Have fun with her!!
Hi Nana
Hi Nana,
I will be going there again with Leah, Dad and Bridget when Leah is here.
So I might try it.
Love you lots,
bye.

Boat trip
You sound like you have really exciting adventures! Especially when you were on the boat and it was rocking side to side. The monkeys sound cool too! It sounds really fun to do all those things!
